Kids' Chance, Inc. is a wonderful Missouri not-for-profit organization which provides college scholarships to children who have a parent who was disabled or killed in a work-related accident.  The scholarship is generally good for one school year, but the applicant may re-apply for any following school years.  Most scholarships are awarded for college and university studies, but they can also be awarded for vocational and technical education as well.  The money for the scholarships is raised mainly by volunteers of Missouri employers, insurance carriers, medical providers, and plaintiffs and defense attorneys.  Fundraisers occur all year long, including golf tournaments, educational seminars, trivia nights and bowling events.  It is a rare opportunity for all parties to the workers' compensation process to come together for a common good.

The parent's injury must result from a work accident that is compensable under the Missouri Workers' Compensation Law.  A workers' compensation attorney may have to be consulted in order to find out if the parent's accident is one that would be compensable under the law. The Kids' Chance website sets forth the criteria for the scholarship and also gives a list of documents necessary to apply for the scholarship. The information can be assessed at http://www.mokidschance.org/facts.html
